PARKS……..VALUABLE ASSETS
FOR CITY/CITIZENS
1.
Total of 204 acres of Parks, up 11% since 2001
·
Forest lake is 2,300 acres and generates
$870,000 in tax revenue just for the lake frontage tax!
·
Parks generate $0 tax revenue
2.
In 2016 the city
will spend spend $404,000 on park maintenance and park programs
·
FL lake funding dropped from: $67,000 in 2007
To:$10,600 in 2008
In 2016 the spending will be $55,000,
down from $63,000 in 2015
·
Why is the lake underfunded???.
3.
FL’s major park is on the lake.
4.
The key park program “Arts in the Park” is held on the
lake and the lake is one of the key elements for its
success of drawing 200-250 people/Tues.
5.
The lake draws thousands of people from outside FL for
the summer months and thousands for the July 4th lake
fireworks….and thousands more in the winter for lake activities with the Ice Fishing Contest bringing in
7,000 alone.
6.
Over 50% of FL residences are active users of the lake
(984 on the lake +2373 not on the lake but that boat on the lake+ residences that use the public
beach).
7.
Shouldn’t the City consider the Lake as valuable
as our parks and therefore continue to fund lake improvement programs?
